POOLSIDE - SUMMER 2025

As the season changes from winter to spring to summer, we migrate from the inside to the outside. Now that the warm weather is upon us, we are finally poolside!

Cool pools and water features can bring simple pleasure to our everyday lives.  Water has played an important role in Architecture throughout history and has had integral moments in Tierney Conner projects over the years.  It is a fundamental component of outdoor living:  It is organic, but merges seamlessly with architecture; It changes with the light, wind and temperature to reflect the world around us visually and audibly; It can bring nature to people and people to each other.  A pool area is a perfect canvas for al-fresco summer living.  Here we take a quick dive into some of our recent projects, from Orinda to Kentfield to Lafayette, and we share a few of our favorite poolside furnishings!

Lounging is a quintessential poolside activity and fortunately for us, there is an abundance of simply perfect lounge chair options out there – each one a unique piece of art, both beautiful and functional.  Highlighted below is the 1966 Collection Contour Chaise, designed by Richard Schultz for Knoll.  This chair, which is part of the MoMA permanent collection, has a clean lined cast aluminum powder coated frame that is intrinsically durable.   Add some flair with one of the different color options or pair with other pieces from the same collection.

Bluff Lounge - Created by Concreteworks, established in the East Bay in 1991, this low-down lounge is the epitome of modern.

Palissade Cord Chaise Lounge - A more economical option that reinterprets traditional wicker and pairs it with a contemporary metal frame thanks to HAY, a Danish company that partners with designers around the world to create furniture with the belief that “good design is everyone’s right.”

Sponeck Armchair & Ottoman - Coming from the ever-innovative Swisspearl Group and designed by Julia von Sponeck, this fiber-cement duo is ergonomic, strong and unique in its form and construction.
